Khelo India Madhya Pradesh stood third first and last medal from water
The 13-day long Khelo India Youth Games came to an end on Saturday. 973 medals were awarded in 27 games. 5812 players from 36 states participated. MP stood at number three, while Maharashtra topped. Maharashtra won 161 medals, followed by Haryana with 128 and MP with 96 medals. Madhya Pradesh was at the eighth position in the last Khelo India and this time it has come to the third place. Madhya Pradesh started the medal with water and finished it with water only.
The first gold of the tournament was won by Nitin Verma in Kayaking Canoeing in the waters of Badi Lake on January 31, the first day of the event. The last gold was won by Aryan S Ganesh in swimming on Saturday 11th February. Aryan S Ganesh of Bhopal is taking training from British coach Michael while staying in Doha. He is the only swimmer from MP to win Gold in Khelo India Swimming. Khelo India started from TT Nagar and ended at Badi Jheel.
MP water sports came on top:
MP water sports, Haryana wrestling and Maharashtra remained in top 3 on the basis of swimming. Madhya Pradesh won 13 gold medals in water sports, while in wrestling, Haryana captured 9 gold, 8 silver, 24 bronze out of 21 gold at stake. Similarly Maharashtra won 16 gold in swimming. Athletic and Malkhamb also contributed in taking Madhya Pradesh to the third position. In athletics also he got 14 medals including 6 gold, while in Malkhamb he got 9 medals including 5 gold. Madhya Pradesh also got 13 medals in boxing.
Most gold in the tournament
Fernandez won six gold and one silver in the tournament, more than Maharashtra. She was the player who won the most gold in the fifth Khelo India.
Maharashtra’s swimmer actor R.K. Madhavan’s son Vedant won 5 gold and one silver. MP’s Nitin Verma won three golds, being the maximum.
