Measles threat: MP Govt. fight Measles with the help of temples and mosques
Amidst the target of completely eliminating Measles (Khasra) from the country this year i.e. in 2023, 95 new cases have been reported in Madhya Pradesh in the last one and a half months. Of these, 56 are in four districts only. Due to this the health department is on high alert. Measles outbreak is already more in UP, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. In such a situation, the danger has increased in MP.
The health department is now taking support of temples and mosques to deal with misconceptions related to disease to increase vaccination. ANM, ASHA, Anganwadi workers etc. have been instructed to write awareness messages outside the Devi temples. Because in many areas even today Measles is considered to be the wrath of Goddess and it is called ‘Chhoti Mata’. Similarly, health workers meeting the imams of mosques are advising them to help dispel misconceptions with elimination deadline.
87 percent children have got second vaccine:
Measles vaccination starts in children from 9 months. 93!^ children have had their first inoculation while 87!^ have had their second inoculation. Health department is propagating that death can be avoided by giving two doses of Vitamin A to the afflicted children in 24 hours. According to both Hindu and Muslim communities, there are many misconceptions. Due to this people do not get vaccinated. Vaccination is a big challenge in 89 tribal blocks due to superstition.
95 Measles apprehension ends after vaccination:
According to the standards 95!^ apprehension of return of this ends after vaccination. We will achieve this target by 31st March. The mortality rate in the disease is 30!^ but the situation is under control in the state.
